If you’re a nostalgic fool (and we mean that in the best way), then you’ll love Maggie Lindemann’s newest tune “Friends Go”. It’s a complete nod to No Doubt. Its upbeat, ska feel is paired with lyrics that tell a story of nostalgia and longing for a relationship gone too soon. Perfect for a social media generation that can leave you feeling friendless even though you have 5,000 “friends”. Well, hopefully Maggie will find real friends to get her through the tough times. She can call us up. Like what you read here? Click on the HOME page and subscribe today to unlock premium, members-only content—some of which you won’t find any place else on the internet! We’ve been told not to live in the past. But what if the past was really good? Joanne Shaw Taylor takes the best of the past and brings it all into modern living. The Brit adopted Detroit as her hometown and has channeled all the Motown greats into her being. Her latest album Reckless Heart doesn’t disappoint. Her gritty guitar playing paired with her soulful voice is a much-needed ear cleanse. Check out the lead single, “The Best Thing”. If Aretha, Janis and Mavis had a baby… Like what you read here? Memphis May Fire has made a slight turn in its musical direction, and fans are displeased. Known primarily as a heavy hitter—as in heavy metal, then band is more mainstream rock-focused. The sound is appealing, and perhaps a wider audience awaits. With their latest single “Heavy is the Weight”, the band tells the story of pressure to be true to self—which is funny, given the band’s change. Whether you’ve been a fan or are new to the band, this single delivers. Solid instrumentation with sublime vocals and good lyrical content—and a little rap from Andy Mineo. Catch the band as part of the Disrupt Fest this summer. Like what you read here? We didn’t have much hope for The Black Moods. Seriously, the name sounds like a whole lotta funk—and we don’t mean musical genre—and, we felt perhaps these boys suffer from musical PMS. We don’t need any cramps in our lives. But good new rock music is hard to come by. So despite whatever mood this band is in, it ends up in a good place. “Bad News” is the follow up single to their solid debut “Bella Donna”. Is it us, or is the frontman channeling his inner Robert Plant-- hard. And the track has some touches of Zeppelin, so perhaps... We wish when we were in a bad mood that we could make it sound this good. We’ll work on that. Like what you read here? In a world where we can easily be caught-up in trying to create the best life, and to earn the praise of others—it can be absolutely soul-crushing. It can leave us empty—even if we reach whatever goal. Tauren Wells brings us a simple, beautiful concept in his song “Known.” That concept—you’re loved for who you are in this moment. Not what you did, or what you might accomplish. You are truly known by a pure being who just wants to have a relationship with you as you are. Wells is a five-time Grammy Award Nominee, a Dove Award winner for New Artist of the Year 2018, and is well on his way to superstardom. His voice is smooth like butter, and the simplicity of this tune paired with its simply-sweet message fills your heart. There is other-worldly comfort here: When we speak of true love, this is it. Flawless. Not spoiled by human shortcomings and judgements. Sniff. Sniff. We might be experiencing some emotion here. Sigh. "Known" It's so unusual it's frightening You see right through the mess inside me And you call me out to pull me in You tell me I can start again And I don't need to keep on hiding I'm fully known and loved by You You won't let go no matter what I do And it's not one or the other It's hard truth and ridiculous grace To be known fully known and loved by You I'm fully known and loved by You It's so like You to keep pursuing It's so like me to go astray, ooh But You guard my heart with Your truth The kind of love that's bullet proof And I surrender to Your kindness, oh I'm fully known and loved by You You won't let go no matter what I do And it's not one or the other It's hard truth and ridiculous grace To be known fully known and loved by You I'm fully known and loved by You How real, how wide How rich, how high is Your heart I cannot find the reasons why You give me so much How real, how wide How rich, how high is Your heart Now, I cannot find the reasons why You give me so much I'm fully known (fully known) and loved by You You won't let go (no you won't let go) no matter what I do And it's not one or the other It's hard truth and ridiculous grace To be known fully known and loved by You I'm fully known and loved by You It's so unusual it's frightening I'm fully known and loved by You Like what you read here? There’s just something about MAX. Maybe it’s his true coolness persona. Or that his music is spot-on pop-perfection. Probably both. After wowing us with his mellow-vibed “Lights Down Low,” MAX is back with “Love Me Less” featuring Quinn XCII. Nice vocals, nice staccato rhythm, and craftily crafted mashup-ery with that Quinn dude—all while soul-bearing about ones active love life past. And we love the video because of the use of a giant stuffed monkey, which reminds of us of our Funbassador Ollie, which is sweetness. P.S. Alive in Barcelona makes social commentary so easy to swallow. Because the truth can be ugly, especially if you’re living it. “Zombies” is a song about going though life’s trivial moments and losing sight of opportunities ahead because you’re distracted with nothingness. According to the band: “Too many people spend time being possessed with material things… Zombie’s is about being present and focused. This is the first step in taking control of your life, and ultimately, battling depressive and suicidal thoughts.” The band is able to make real music—not noise. We always appreciate that ability. Message gladly received. Like what you read here? Click on the HOME page and subscribe today to unlock premium, members-only content—some of which you won’t find any place else on the internet! And now from the rock genre--Piqued Jacks. Honestly, we wouldn’t have known they were Italian. But a fellow scribe had this to say about the band: “These Italians understand the nuances of modern love.” – Impose Magazine Apparently, these ain’t no Jersey Shore Italians. PTL! These dudes can actually rock. Not this faux rock that passes for rock today. What we’re stoked about is the synth action along with the groove. This is music. Not noise. The real rock genre may have a shot at resurgence. Check out their tune, “Loner VS Lover”: Sweaty and rock-y. And Italian. Salute! Like what you read here?
