Shatner Claus

11/29/2018

Picture

OMG! Christmas arrived early! We might be shedding tears of joy. Do you know how much we love William Shatner's spoken word records?!?!

Shatner Claus: The Christmas Album is a MUST for your holiday mood-setting. He’s recruited an all-star musical cast to accompany his epic narration: Henry Rollins, Billy Gibbons, Iggy Pop, Todd Rundgren, Brad Paisley, and so many more.

Just listen to this:

The only good shat that exists…

Hope for the Season

11/27/2018

The holidays are 50-50 for people. They either love this time of year, or hate it. And there are reasons to support both sides. With the challenges that some people feel at this time, Brandon Heath’s song “King of Kings” provides both hope and joy for the holidays.

Maybe you’ll connect to the spiritual message of this song, or just the seasonal side. But either way, may you realize that you are loved and there is hope.

Okay. We can’t stand being this sweet. We think it’s all out of our system…

Not Winger

11/23/2018

Picture

We got excited when we saw the single “Seventeen” cross our desk. We thought it may be a cover of Winger’s “Seventeen” from the late 80s. But no. “Seventeen” from Welles is quite different. It’s a moody and introspective tune about the magical age of 17.

You can watch the video here, if you’re wanting an alt-pop vibe. We can take it or leave it.

He's got Kip-esque hair, but we prefer Winger. And for those of you hatin’ on Kip, he is a classically trained musician. Don’t hate him cuz he was pretty in the late 80s. We don’t hate him. We like him. A lot.

Bye-bye, Welles. Allow us a few moments to swoon over Kip Winger. That hair. That face. That chest hair... Who cares if he was possibly felonious.

Bumpa Shaker

11/20/2018

Picture

Who doesn’t love (even if it’s secretly) “Who Let the Dogs Out” from Baha Men?

Their latest fun tune is “Bumpa”. True to style, you’ll feel like dancing around with a tropical adult beverage in your hand. And with these ingenious lyrics, who could blame you:

“I wanna see you shake your bumpa, shake your bumpa
I wanna see it clap like thunda, clap like thunda”

We're not sure we can make it "clap like thunda" unless we have digestive issues. Otherwise, it sounds painful. We can make it jiggle like Jell-O, though.

Now go and listen to the wisdom of Baha Men and do what they say. Shake yo bumpa until you can’t shake no mo!

Stirling Silver

If you ever played an instrument back in school, you had a certain “look.” Usually, glasses, braces, some pimple-action, and slightly greasy hair.
But you loved being a band geek, because music is neato.

You may have even dreamed one day of growing up and playing music for a living and looking half as cool as Lindsey Stirling while doing it.

We admit—we have a complete girl crush on Lindsey. I mean, seriously, she’s a total bad-ass. Like, she looks smokin’ hot playing her violin. And, she could probably use that violin to beat you. Even better!

Check out her latest: Carol of the Bells.

Measured

11/12/2018

We’re sad we haven’t heard, literally, of Metric. The Canadian indie poprocksters have been around since the late 90s. Our ears are quite happy with their latest single, “Now or Never Now.”

We feel like skipping around the house in a snazzy pair of Skechers and cold-shoulder sweatshirt. And look cool like Emily does in this pic.

But instead, we’re livin' somewhere between Target chic and Walmart cheek.

Put your eyes on this instead:

The Freaks Come Out

11/8/2018

We believe it would be acceptable, even trend setting, to not bathe for a week or wash our hair for a month. That’s how this song, “Night Time” from Superorganism makes us feel. It’s refreshing, but not take-a-shower refreshing.

The band is new, like, last year new. And they’re based in London. The group’s members hail from England, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. They started as a casual recording project. Now, they’re totally committed. We feel even trendier. Score!

“Night Time” is poppy and fresh. We actually want to run out into the night; Have a convo with the homeless guy dressed in an American flag pantsuit; and  then eating way too much Taco Bell.

Watch and see if you feel the same. Or maybe it’s just us. Yeah. We’re on an island.

Smashing-ly Good

11/6/2018

For some weird reason, we thought Billy Corgan was dead. Maybe because in our mind we associated pumpkins with melons, and Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon died in 1995, so… yeah.

Billy Corgan is indeed alive and well, and rockin’ with Smashing Pumpkins—again. We can’t believe it’s been 18 years since the “founding members” were last together making music. So we’re pumped about their new album, Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. due on 11/16. (Thank you for the extra-long album title...)

Check out the video for “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)”. Props for casting 90s famewhore Mark McGrath, by the way.

Easy, Part 2

11/1/2018

Picture
This time around, “It Ain’t Easy”. And we’re talking about Everlast, not Max Ater (see previous post).

What more can we say about Everlast? Killer voice. Gritty vibe.

We’re loving this tune. So much soul.
