Meghan Trainor was all about the bass and the no-no-nos in the beginning. There is no doubt she can write a hit song. There is no doubt she can sing. But after gettin' all pumped for her new music, we feel like... blah, blah, blah. "Nice to Meet Ya" is a nice dance track featuring Nicki Minaj. Nothing over the top. Everything as expected. And perhaps that's the issue. We will always appreciate the she-girl-empowerment message. We'll still shake our fine bootays to your tunes, but some of the magic is gone. We're on to your lyrical tricks and callbacks. And this makes us a little… sad… Warning: Please stop before you become the next Nickelback. We don’t even know how to say his name: LuQa. Who cares, really? All we know is his song “Sweat” is just fun, good music. No agendas. No message. Just booty-shakin’. Sometimes, we just need mindless. Like reality TV. And, we dig the throwback vibe. LuQa is influenced by Michael Jackson, Lionel Riche, and Boyz II Men. You can hear that peppered throughout this track. We will listen to anything Rag’n’Bone Man sings. The ABCs. The Charmin butt wiper song. Any. Thing. Because his voice can’t even be described. Put him together with Calvin Harris’ dance ingenuity, and you’ve got “Giant”. Only Calvin can take a dirty, nasty blues artist and make him some cleaned-up a-bit-gent ready for the VIP section of any club. This song’s got fire, soul, passion, and booty shakeability. Win. |
