So Easy

9/23/2019

Picture

We complicate things. We get in our own way. If we had a more simplistic approach to life and loving ourselves, we’d be happier. That’s the gist of The Head and The Heart’s “See You Through My Eyes”.

How many times have we muffed something from overthinking? Or thinking our baggage will ruin everything? We all have baggage. So, let’s move on..

This all could be so easy…

Got Your Back

9/9/2019

It’s not the Jackson 5 version, but Walk Off the Earth’s “I’ll Be There” carries a loving sentiment. It’s not the romantical kind, but it is a song all about love done up in a pop-reggae vibe...

I’ll be there for the highs and lows
Give you mine if your heart gets broke
By your side when you’re all alone
I will be there
When you’re down on your luck
No ride home and you got too drunk
2am I will pick you up
I will be there

The band has been through its share of heartache. Last December Mike “Beard Guy” Taylor died from natural causes in his sleep, just as the band was ready to embark on a world tour. They’re on the road now, on the road to healing. And with this tune, we know that someone will always have our back.

Make It a Positive

9/3/2019

Picture

There was a time when Scott Stapp was on top of the world. His band, Creed, had jet-rocketed into outer space after gaining airplay on a hometown radio station. There wasn’t a song that wasn’t a hit.

And then the bottom fell out. Substance abuse. Egos. Too much fame and fortune. Most recently, Scott had hit rock bottom—again. But now, he’s back. And dare we say—rockin’ fabulous.

His latest track, “Purpose For Pain” is delicious rock as it should be—heavy guitars, tight harmonies, and Scott’s unmistakable vocal stylizing.

The song is about "…Seeking a higher meaning, a spiritual mentality when dealing with our struggles and life’s painful moments. There are unexplainable, dark times that everyone goes through, and that pain is real. If we can dig deep and hold on to hope during the most difficult situations, believing there is a purpose waiting for us on the others side, we can find meaning and clarity that gives us the strength to keep fighting.”

Fight on…

The World is an Apple

8/26/2019

Picture

Apple wants to be King of Everything, doesn’t it seem? Technology, music platforms, and now the latest feature--New Music Daily.

Every day (thus, daily LOL) more than 60 new tracks reflecting “Apple Music’s Editorial point of view” on the best new music will be delivered. The company is billing it as a “carefully curated, hand-picked library of fresh tracks from the best artists across every genre of music.”

Uhm, thanks. But we rarely follow what critics say when it comes to entertainment.

But that’s not all! Apple Music editors will choose one song each day to feature in the top spot on the playlist, and the selected artist will be the “cover person”.

So, is Apple going to feature up-and-coming artists, or just pick the low-lying fruit (see what we did there?) like good ol’ TayTay?

Life is a Hotel

8/21/2019

Picture

Swedish popsters Smith & Thell have devised a nice little ditty, “Hotel Walls”—a song that sounds like it belongs in an ensemble TV show like Friends or 90210.

The song regales the listener with a metaphor about life. It’s like a hotel room—everything is rented. You check in and check out. With that in mind, the duo wants us to get to celebrating life.

Hopefully, life isn’t like a Motel 8. They’ll leave the light on for you. But don’t turn the black light on. Ick.

Kicky

8/19/2019

Picture

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Natasha Bedingfield is back and en fuego. On the heels of her fourth album release, she’s just dropped the tune “Kick It”. It’s a nice anthem—perfect for what’s left of summer—full of hope when it comes to keeping a relationship on track despite the ups and downs.

Her soulful, yet airy vocals makes everything she touches pop perfection.  Roll  With Me drops August 30th.

P.S. Wonder how her brother Daniel Bedingfield feels? He broke into the biz before sis and had one really big hit... and then... zzzzz. Like, what does he get her for Christmas?

Drama Queen

8/14/2019

When you mess with a drama queen, you get a big headache and broken heart. But when Coin sings this tale of woe in “Crash My Car”, a love encounter with a drama queen might be fun—even through the damage.

The lightness of this track, paired with some group vocalizing make this a fun ditty about someone you claim you don’t want to encounter.

Let’s face it. We all have a little drama within...

Let's Get Personal

8/12/2019

Picture

Morgxn bares his soul on his latest single “A New Way.” While many artists inject a part of themselves into their work, this song is all about the singer’s struggles with bullying, coming-out, and life’s b.s.—but it’s presented in a way that anyone can identify with.

The theme of the song: you can feel hurt, and scared, but you shouldn’t let that stop you from trying to make the world a better place.

Morgxn received a lot of hate after the release of his song “Holy Water”—because he wore a dress in the video and painted his nails. Uh…. Perhaps some of these spewing tools are not familiar with glam rock, or the late Prince—in all his androgyny and high-heeled-booted glory.

Anywho, “A New Way” is pretty darned cool.

Be you.

Grammer School

8/7/2019

Picture

When you need some uplifting, Andy Grammer is good for that. He’s genuine in all his sentiments. And, he’s truly a nice dude. His latest feel-gooder is “Don’t Give Up On Me”, which is featured in the film Five Feet Apart.

It’s the perfect song to express your devotion to the one that makes your heart beat.

It’s as if he’s gotten into your head and wrote the song you always wanted. Grammer shared this on his YouTube post about this song:

“My journey in music has staggering highs and lows. I have seasons where I feel like I can’t miss, where I feel quite literally invincible. Then there are seasons where I wonder if I will ever write anything true or special again, whether I have anything to offer, whether I have simply fooled everyone up to this point. I am a positive guy but that just means that I go to war with my head when these doubts attack. The smile is often a smile through some sort of intense struggle. This is normal. This is everyone. If you hear this song and it inspires you to not give up on someone or better yet yourself I am with you. I am vulnerable, weak, unsure, while also being stubborn, hopeful, and optimistic. It’s a package deal. Keep telling me in the comments someone you haven’t given up on. Reading these comments is feeding my soul.”

We *heart* you, Andy.

Just Good

8/5/2019

There is nothing more irritating than when you can’t get a song out of your head. Especially if it’s bad or cheesy. But “Good” from Twin XL is worth the irritation. Because it’s… good.

This may be their debut single, but they’re no newbies. Twin XL is the brainchild of songwriters/producers Cameron Walker, Stephen Gomez, and John Gomez. The dudes cut their musical teeth in other bands, would run into each other at random gigs and events, and eventually decided to hang in the studio one day and see what became of it.

Glad it happened. “Good” has a Fitz and The Tantrums feel: Upbeat. Finger-tappy. Head-noddy.

The tune broke with help from shows like The Resident on FOX, Hulu’s Light as a Feather and Ex on the Beach on MTV.

Feelin’ “good” now…

P.S. Thank goodness this story is complete. Or we would've attempted to use "good" more often...
