Meghan Trainor was all about the bass and the no-no-nos in the beginning. There is no doubt she can write a hit song. There is no doubt she can sing. But after gettin' all pumped for her new music, we feel like... blah, blah, blah. "Nice to Meet Ya" is a nice dance track featuring Nicki Minaj. Nothing over the top. Everything as expected. And perhaps that's the issue. We will always appreciate the she-girl-empowerment message. We'll still shake our fine bootays to your tunes, but some of the magic is gone. We're on to your lyrical tricks and callbacks. And this makes us a little… sad… Warning: Please stop before you become the next Nickelback. We. Can’t. Even. Jhene Aiko’s “P*$$y Fairy” is… magical? We’re not giving this tune two b&lls up. We were simply intrigued when this came across our desk. A song. Named P*$$y Fairy. So we listened. The premise revolves around a large ween that’s magnetically drawn, basically, to this magical female hot spot. Listen with earbuds on. This ain’t SFW. Uh... okay. They don’t write lyrics as poetic as this anymore. And what's intriguing are the sweet vocals, about something so tawdry. Perhaps you dream of this magical after-hours creature visiting you, sprinkling who knows what... on you... Wanna feel old? Seriously, we know you don't want to but... Incubus has been around for 20 years. Two decades. Gulp. But they're still rockin' it out! And honestly, Incubus has been making real rock music the entire time. Check out their latest, "Our Love". Make this your love anthem. Or any anthem for anything. Because it's awesome. Dan Call from The Villians is flying solo, and we likey. His debut “Intoxicating” is, well, addicting. Maybe it’s the dreamy overall tone. Or his boozy whipped cream vocals. Or the shoutout to 80s pop with some synth action. Regardless, it’s like a tasty glass of Pink Moscato. We could binge drink this all weekend long… We complicate things. We get in our own way. If we had a more simplistic approach to life and loving ourselves, we’d be happier. That’s the gist of The Head and The Heart’s “See You Through My Eyes”. How many times have we muffed something from overthinking? Or thinking our baggage will ruin everything? We all have baggage. So, let’s move on.. This all could be so easy… Like what you read here? It’s not the Jackson 5 version, but Walk Off the Earth’s “I’ll Be There” carries a loving sentiment. It’s not the romantical kind, but it is a song all about love done up in a pop-reggae vibe... I’ll be there for the highs and lows Give you mine if your heart gets broke By your side when you’re all alone I will be there When you’re down on your luck No ride home and you got too drunk 2am I will pick you up I will be there The band has been through its share of heartache. Last December Mike “Beard Guy” Taylor died from natural causes in his sleep, just as the band was ready to embark on a world tour. They’re on the road now, on the road to healing. And with this tune, we know that someone will always have our back. Like what you read here? There was a time when Scott Stapp was on top of the world. His band, Creed, had jet-rocketed into outer space after gaining airplay on a hometown radio station. There wasn’t a song that wasn’t a hit. And then the bottom fell out. Substance abuse. Egos. Too much fame and fortune. Most recently, Scott had hit rock bottom—again. But now, he’s back. And dare we say—rockin’ fabulous. His latest track, “Purpose For Pain” is delicious rock as it should be—heavy guitars, tight harmonies, and Scott’s unmistakable vocal stylizing. The song is about "…Seeking a higher meaning, a spiritual mentality when dealing with our struggles and life’s painful moments. There are unexplainable, dark times that everyone goes through, and that pain is real. If we can dig deep and hold on to hope during the most difficult situations, believing there is a purpose waiting for us on the others side, we can find meaning and clarity that gives us the strength to keep fighting.” Fight on… Like what you read here? Apple wants to be King of Everything, doesn’t it seem? Technology, music platforms, and now the latest feature--New Music Daily. Every day (thus, daily LOL) more than 60 new tracks reflecting “Apple Music’s Editorial point of view” on the best new music will be delivered. The company is billing it as a “carefully curated, hand-picked library of fresh tracks from the best artists across every genre of music.” Uhm, thanks. But we rarely follow what critics say when it comes to entertainment. But that’s not all! Apple Music editors will choose one song each day to feature in the top spot on the playlist, and the selected artist will be the “cover person”. So, is Apple going to feature up-and-coming artists, or just pick the low-lying fruit (see what we did there?) like good ol’ TayTay? Like what you read here? Swedish popsters Smith & Thell have devised a nice little ditty, “Hotel Walls”—a song that sounds like it belongs in an ensemble TV show like Friends or 90210. The song regales the listener with a metaphor about life. It’s like a hotel room—everything is rented. You check in and check out. With that in mind, the duo wants us to get to celebrating life. Hopefully, life isn’t like a Motel 8. They’ll leave the light on for you. But don’t turn the black light on. Ick. Like what you read here? Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Natasha Bedingfield is back and en fuego. On the heels of her fourth album release, she’s just dropped the tune “Kick It”. It’s a nice anthem—perfect for what’s left of summer—full of hope when it comes to keeping a relationship on track despite the ups and downs. Her soulful, yet airy vocals makes everything she touches pop perfection. Roll With Me drops August 30th. P.S. Wonder how her brother Daniel Bedingfield feels? He broke into the biz before sis and had one really big hit... and then... zzzzz. Like, what does he get her for Christmas? Like what you read here?
